Nope can't use Colgate on your doggie because they can't spit it out...they will swallow it and it may upset their tummy. It is ok for us because we can spit it from our mouth, but a dog is powerless to do this action. The toothpaste special made for pets to brush their teeth is ok for them to swallow without causing any harmful side effects.
I have not heard of rice making bad breath...but I can understand the theory behind it.
If you feed your dog kibbles, they tend to act like a toothbrush in a sense. They help to keep the teeth clean a bit. When you switch to human food...especially rice, these are foods that wedge between the teeth, and contribute to tooth decay in the long run.
You smell like what you eat, so whatever your dog eats will come out of it via various ways. }l
The only bad thing I have heard about feeding a dog rice is from a vet. I owned a 5 year old Standard Dachshund that was gifted to me from a relative. She was retired from breeding, and they had fed her rice for most of her life. After owning her for only about 1 month, she developed a large hole in her chest beside her teat. Took her to the vet, and was told that she has so much starch build up in her body from eating rice that it was now causing major problems and puss filled cavities that are rising to the surface.
So, if I have to feed a dog rice of any kind...it is only fed rice for a very short time in small quantities. Never a main staple meal, because it also causes obesity in dogs as you can well see in humans alike.

waaah! buti pala hindi ko ginamit yung colgate ng niece ko.. lol.. my mom said that it's ok daw.. I doubted kaya baking soda nalang nilagay ko.. though I really dont know how to use this in brushing.. nagmix lang ako few amount of it sa water then yun ginamit ko pambasa ng brush.. I hope tama ginawa ko..

It is fine to just add some to water, or better yet make a sort of paste like mixture. You can take the baking soda and add a bit of water till you get a paste like texture then apply it to the toothbrush.
Nope, 2 weeks is fine for human food. You can feed them human food their whole life. You just have to give them things to chew on to keep their teeth healthy...like the Dentabones, etc.
For Eagle Pack, or any type of dog food....just order it from Dog City. They deliver 1x per week free, but you have to buy at least 2 large bags of kibble. :D

@nj...your toothbrush bristles may be too harsh for your dogs teeth and gums. The bristles need to be super soft, like for a baby...or you could get a pet toothbrush.
I am not familiar with the kind of toothpaste you are using, but if it is not meant for dogs, it may make his belly upset when he swallows it. Where toothpaste made for pets will not be harmful...that is if you are not using it.
For your door, you may want to block his access to the door, to curb his chewing habits, or spray various parts of the door that are within his reach, with Bitter Apple, or some sort of nasty tasting solution that he won't like to eat.

Actually it is the best to brush our dogs and cats teeth on a regular basis. If you can't make sure to give them dry kibble sometimes, chew bones, etc. That will help keep the teeth clean.
It is a good idea to take your dog for teeth cleaning when tartar buildup has become abundant.
It is not a good idea to use human toothpaste, it is best to use toothpaste for especially made for animals. ;)
